Karl Lagerfield is Giving Away Free Prom Dresses!

Do you remember your high school prom, the stress of finding the perfect dress, the pressures of looking your best?

Prom day is a compelling milestone for most young women but thanks to Karl Lagerfield, some girls may be attending the event in a dress designed by the man himself. Lagerfield along with his Paris design team have collaborated with a non-profit charity organisation named Girls Inc., to dress underprivileged girls for their proms.

For every dress purchased on KarlLagerfieldParis.com this month, he will donate another dress to the cause. The dresses will be available for 10 New York schools in which 100 girls will be asked to pick a dress from the website or in the pop up store opening on April 27th.

Girls Inc. is a New York based association offering many programmes designed to empower and inspire girls. They provide support, mentoring and guidance equipping young women with skills to cross social, gender and economic barriers. This allows them to grow through their teenage years safely and educated, ultimately making them more independent for their futures.

“The girls of today are the women of tomorrow”

Although Lagerfield is a haute couture designer, being the Creative director at Chanel, Karl Lagerfield Paris offers more affordable pieces with starting prices as low as £70. It has been clear over the years that Lagerfield believes in championing young women. 18-year-old Yara Shahidi has become the US brand ambassador for Chanel and 16-year-old model Kaia Gerber has cemented her first design collaboration with Lagerfield, launching in September. Showing his support of young females when speaking to Vanity Fair he states, “the girls of today are the women of tomorrow”.

In 2014 Lagerfield turned a Chanel runway show into an interoperable feminist protest having models such as Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Gisele Bundchen carry signs reading ‘Ladies First’ and ‘History is Her Story’. When questioned about the event he told Fashionista, “My mother was very much a feminist and I thought it was something right for the moment”.

The charity collaboration with Girls Inc. is a great way of supporting young girls and helping them to feel empowered. When they get the chance to pick out the Karl Lagerfield Paris dress they wish to wear, they’ll know that shoppers from all over the world helped them recieve it.
