Scandinavian fashion company Lindex is designed with the mission to empower women. Their new ‘Art Meets Fashion’ collection has given eight female artists the chance to create original artwork, which is then handed over to the Lindex design team to transform their work into 12 original pieces of fashion. The artists were given a theme of celebrating women and so the concept of the collection is to pay tribute to females.

The collection is based on contemporary art and includes a rugged denim jacket; long line silk kimono, a bonded vegan leather tote bag, a waist belt made with Better Cotton and retro swimwear. As well as empowering women, the Lindex brand also focuses on being eco-friendly and sustainable.

“Art Meets Fashion”, a fun, inspirational and expressive fashion collection by women, for women — and for all those who want to pay tribute to women.” – Lindex

Lindex’s aim is to create wearable clothing and accessories for women who wish to affirm their personality through expressive fashion. Most impressively, Lindex recognise that women are essential in their business and so the money made from the collection will be donated to HERproject. HERProject is an initiative to empower women who earn a low salary income working in supply chains around the world and to increase their knowledge about access to health amongst the textile workers. Lindex recently donated 119000 euros to the project and work with over 250 factories around the world including, China, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to make sure their garments are made with the best production processes.

‘The majority of the textile workers who make our clothes are women and we are committed to improving their lives.’

Managed by Business for Social Responsibility, HERproject focuses on providing health education to the women and improving their conditions both in the factories and at home. They have been partnered with Lindex since 2012 and the money raised this year will help start more projects in more factories.

Another sector of the project is named WE Women by Lindex, which focuses on gender equality within the supply chains and making sure the management systems are functioning with awareness of gender equality issues.

The Lindex limited addition ‘Art Meets Fashion’ collection is currently available at selected stores and on lindex.com
