Woman of the week. Nicole Kidman

Australian actresses Nicole Kidman, In the lead up to International Women’s Day on March 8, has leant her face to the plight to end violence against women.

Nicole Kidman is fronting the UN’s Face It Together campaign which asks people around the world to share a photo of themselves as a pledge of support.

A goodwill ambassador to the United Nations herself, the 48-year-old actress is seen smiling mildly on the campaign’s website before her features start to slowly morph into those of other participants.

The Face It Together campaign is urging people around the world to share a picture of themselves as a pledge of support.

Kidman posted a photo to her official Facebook page with the caption: “I joined the face opposing violence against women. Pledge your image too, and make a donation to support UN Women’s work to end violence against women and girls. Let’s #FaceItTogether.

In a video on the campaign’s website, the actress is seen smiling as her features start to slowly morph into those of other participants. Her face merges into the image of a man with a shaved head and glasses with the tagline ‘the face opposing violence against women’.

The campaign highlights the plight of women in the Pacific, where violence is at epidemic levels, with two in three women experiencing it in their lifetime.

A second video explains: “Violence against women in the Pacific region is one of the most pervasive violations of human rights. One of the least prosecuted crimes, one of the greatest threats to peace, security and development. In their lifetime, anywhere from 66 to 100 per cent of women will experience violence. Violence is reinforced where its allowed to stay hidden and the survivor’s voices remain unheard.”

The campaign has been launched ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Donations can be made via the campaign website or through the purchase of the official scarf from Esprit – 100% of the proceeds will go towards combating violence against women and girls in the Pacific.
